Kyndryl Secures Three-Year Contract to Oversee Bord Gáis Energy’s Cloud Infrastructure
Kyndryl, a leading IT infrastructure services provider, has renewed its three-year contract with Bord Gáis Energy to manage its comprehensive hyperscaler and private cloud environment. This agreement extends Kyndryl’s Managed Services support for Bord Gáis Energy’s hybrid cloud infrastructure.
Under the new contract, Kyndryl will collaborate with Bord Gáis Energy to transition its entire system to the cloud and adopt Storage-as-a-Service (SaaS). This initiative is guided by the jointly developed ‘Kyndryl | Bord Gáis Energy Strategic Technology Roadmap’.
Kyndryl will oversee Bord Gáis Energy’s Microsoft Azure and private cloud environments, managing up to the operating system level. The services provided will include Backup-as-a-Service (via Microsoft Azure and on-premise solutions), Storage-as-a-Service, and Compute-as-a-Service. These offerings aim to reduce Bord Gáis Energy’s data center footprint and carbon emissions, supporting the company’s goal to achieve net zero by 2045, while simultaneously enhancing customer experiences through improved IT infrastructure.
This renewed partnership builds on Kyndryl’s achievements over the past three years with Bord Gáis Energy. During this period, nearly half of the company’s workloads were successfully migrated to Microsoft Azure without incident, thanks to Kyndryl Bridge automation, which also reduced IT incident tickets. Kyndryl’s delivery teams have maintained uninterrupted system operations throughout this time.
A notable solution implemented by Bord Gáis Energy and Kyndryl is the Red Hat® Ansible Automation® Platform, which automates event and alert management as well as security code controls. This platform is integrated with Bord Gáis Energy’s IT Service Management tool, enhancing the stability of its IT infrastructure. Since its implementation, the platform has automatically diagnosed 72% of incidents and resolved 40% using Ansible playbooks, enabling rapid closure of trouble tickets.
Chris Davis, Managing Director of Kyndryl Ireland, expressed his enthusiasm for the continued partnership, stating, “We value our relationship with Bord Gáis Energy and are thrilled to renew our collaboration for another three years. We are exploring new opportunities in the Data and AI sectors and leveraging our global alliance with Microsoft to develop key skills and expertise.”
Amidst rising energy costs, Kyndryl remains dedicated to optimizing Bord Gáis Energy’s customer experiences and supporting its strategic objective of fostering a greener, fairer future where digital services play a crucial role in business growth.
